An elegant open-source calendar that lives in your Mac menu bar with quick event viewing and agenda overview

Calendr is a lightweight, open-source menu bar calendar that provides quick access to schedules without opening the full Calendar app. The interface displays a monthly calendar grid alongside a compact agenda view showing upcoming events with color-coded time blocks.

The app integrates with multiple calendar sources, including iCloud, Google Calendar, and Notion Calendar (added in recent updates). Clicking any event reveals options to open it directly or set quick reminders at standard intervals (5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour before). The agenda view displays time remaining until the next appointment, providing at-a-glance schedule awareness.

Built natively in Swift using RxSwift, the app integrates seamlessly with macOS and maintains minimal resource usage. The codebase is MIT licensed, allowing inspection and community contributions. Development remains active—version 1.17.2 (June 2024) improved upcoming event display to show events within 30 minutes rather than only current ones.

Installation options include direct download from GitHub releases or Homebrew (brew install --cask calendr) for streamlined updates.

Pricing: Free, open-source (MIT license).

System requirements: macOS (specific version requirements available on GitHub). Lightweight with negligible performance impact.

Limitations: The feature set is intentionally minimal—no natural language event creation, limited view options, and basic customization compared to premium alternatives. The app focuses on quick schedule viewing rather than comprehensive calendar management.

Alternatives: Calendar 366 II (premium, extensive features), Itsycal (free, similar simplicity), Fantastical (premium, natural language input).

Suitable for users who need fast, glanceable calendar access without feature complexity, particularly those who prefer open-source solutions with no cost or privacy concerns.
