Control Philips Hue and Phoscon deCONZ smart lights directly from your Mac menu bar

I recently discovered We Love Lights while searching for a better way to control my Philips Hue lights without reaching for my phone or opening yet another tab in my browser. Like many people working from home, I adjust my lighting throughout the day based on the type of work I’m doing. Bright white for focused tasks, warmer tones for video calls, and dimmer settings when I need to reduce eye strain. Having quick access to these adjustments without context switching has become surprisingly valuable.

We Love Lights sits in your menu bar and provides immediate access to all your Philips Hue or Phoscon deCONZ lights and devices. The app supports both menu bar and window interfaces, so you can choose how you want to interact with your lights. I appreciate that it works with multiple bridges simultaneously, which is useful if you have a larger home setup or need to control lights in different locations. Remote access capability means you can adjust lights even when you’re away from home, though I haven’t needed that feature often.

The color customization options are comprehensive. You can use multiple color picker styles to dial in exactly the shade you want, or create and save color scenes for different situations. I’ve set up scenes for morning work, afternoon focus, and evening wind-down, and switching between them takes a single click. The app also integrates with Apple Shortcuts, so you can incorporate lighting changes into broader automation workflows.

Global keyboard shortcuts are supported, which means you can adjust your lights without leaving whatever app you’re working in. Motion sensor and smart switch configuration are built in, along with a rule editor for creating more complex automation. These features put We Love Lights in the category of comprehensive smart home control rather than just a simple remote.

Version 3.6.5 (released December 12, 2025) runs on macOS 14.0 or later and costs $6.99 as a one-time purchase. The app is 76.3 MB and supports Family Sharing with up to six family members. Developer Robert Hahn maintains the app solo, and the latest update addressed connection issues with the newer Hue Bridge Pro while adding optional telemetry and community features.

For anyone who uses Philips Hue lights and spends significant time at their Mac, We Love Lights provides genuinely convenient control. The menu bar access eliminates the friction of switching devices or apps, and the feature set goes well beyond basic on-off functionality. If you already have smart lights and find yourself frequently adjusting them throughout your workday, the $6.99 price is reasonable for the convenience it provides.
